Agkistro Action is the Alternative Tourism Office (E.O.T – MH.T.E.: 0937E600001433), operated since 2017 by the Social Cooperative “Agkistro Action” (A.Ge.M.K.O: 000067903090). It offers immersive experiences on the battlefields and legendary fortifications of the Metaxas Line in the northern part of the Serres region.
At the heart of our activities lies the Roupel Gorge, a timeless natural passage from the north into the Greek mainland, which for decades remained a “Restricted Zone” to most people—both during the Second World War and throughout the tense years of the Cold War that followed.
Agkistro Action is the first organization in Greece to carry out structured Military & Memory Tourism activities, in accordance with the 2021 Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministries of National Defence, Culture and Tourism, led by the War Museum of Athens, for the development of this form of thematic tourism in Greece.
The Social Cooperative “Agkistro Action” has been operating since 2017 in accordance with the Greek laws on Social and Solidarity Economy (Law 4019/2011 & Law 4430/2016).

With the goal of preserving the fortifications and highlighting historical memory, Agkistro Action has, over the years, implemented a wide range of initiatives that promote and showcase the history of the legendary Metaxas Line. These activities focus not only on the events of the Second World War and the assault by the Nazi forces — a defining moment in modern Greek history — but also on the remarkable story of the construction of the fortifications, regarded as the largest engineering project undertaken in Greece during the 20th century.

Agkistro Action proposed in 2016 to the Municipality of Sintiki — and went on to organise with great success — the leading World War II reenactment festival in Greece, “Roupel 1941: The Reenactment,” an event that attracted thousands of visitors and continues to this day.

In pursuit of shared statutory objectives, the Social Cooperative “Agkistro Action” works closely with the association “Stenopos: Belles & Agistro Fortifications,” based in the border town of Promachonas, Serres.
